CCTV in Wolverhampton?

Wolverhampton does not make CCTV mandatory. But if you choose to install a system, it must come from the council's approved supplier list and comply with the 2025 policy throughout your licence period.

ACSS / CabCam is on the approved supplier list. Every system we supply meets all requirements as standard — including ICO-compliant data storage, signage, and the panic-switch audio rules.

Cameras requirement for Wolverhampton

  • Full interior and forward-facing coverage
  • Optional panic-switch audio recording
  • Illuminated indicator confirms audio is active
  • Must be from the council's approved supplier list only
  • ICO registration required as Data Controller

Footage Access Control

  • Only an ICO-approved data controller can access and view the recorded footage, ensuring compliance with UK data protection regulations.
  • Secure Offline Storage: All recordings are securely stored offline in the MDVR unit fitted in the boot of the vehicle, protected with AES-256 encryption.
  • The system will store data for 30 days with an overwrite feature.

Installation and Support

  • ACSS provides a remote installation service to minimise vehicle downtime.
  • Each vehicle installation typically takes 2–3 hours, depending on the vehicle and camera system.
  • Our in-house support team provides ongoing assistance after installation.

How Panic-Switch Audio Works

Audio recording is optional. If fitted, it must operate under strict council rules — our systems handle all of this automatically.

  • Switch accessible to both driver and passengers
  • Illuminated light confirms when audio is active
  • Driver must verbally inform passengers recording has started
  • Records for at least 10 minutes after engine is switched off
  • Stops within 1 minute of switch being turned off
  • Audio synced with video in a tamper-protected file
